In his 2D line drawing compositions, Jean Carlos represents figurative perceptions of objects and entities which carry forms of the materialized world with a focus on the different meanings and source energies they convey. Through the craft of drafting turned figurative drawing, the compositions are intended to be interpreted in multiple dimensions representing subjective philosophical themes which are of continuous interest to the paths, disciplines, and explorations of our world.
Dancer, teacher, musician, band leader, and event director Julian Ramil, DJs Tea & Tango for the first time, taking us on a journey through 100 years of tango music—from Golden Age classics to contemporary and alternative tango, with lively salsa and bachata breaks.
Orquesta de la Bahía
Led by flutist Melissa Bowman, Orquesta de la Bahía brings a fresh and vibrant voice to traditional tango through her imaginative arrangements. The orchestra has a bold mission: to be a leading ensemble with full instrumentation for tango lovers.
Melissa Bowman is a flutist, composer, arranger, and ensemble director with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas. She directs Orquesta de la Bahía and La Orquesta Fusion Tango (LOFT).
Her studies include composition mentorship with Latin Grammy winner Pablo Estigarribia, composition with Julián Peralta, and tango music history with Ignacio Varchausky. She has participated in Reed College’s Tango for Musicians program for three years and studied film, television, and video-game scoring through the ScoreCraft Composing Academy
David Bowman holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas. He has performed with numerous jazz, rock, pop, country, stage, and screen artists, and can be heard on Grammy- and MTV Award-winning recordings. As a member of the Al Hirt Band, the Toshiko Akiyoshi–Lew Tabackin Big Band, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra, he performed in 15 countries. David studied composition and arranging with Lew Gillis, Dick Grove, Mundell Lowe, and Jack Smalley, and has created arrangements for artists including B. J. Thomas, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Chaka Khan.
After hearing Julián Plaza’s music in 2009, Adele began learning tango—first as a dancer and then as a pianist and guitarist. In 2012, she realized that it was the sound of the bandoneón that had drawn her to tango and began studying the instrument.Since 2014, Adele has regularly attended the Stowe Tango Music Festival and Tanguero Summer Workshop. She has studied bandoneón with Rodolfo Mederos, Walter Ríos, and Grammy Award winner Héctor Del Curto, as well as tango arranging with Latin Grammy winner Pablo Estigarribia.
Raymond Fabrizio, Pianist, is active pianist in the San Francisco Bay Area scene. He is a versatile classical and concert pianist, and is sought out by concert hosts and classical dance companies.
A Bay Area native, Carol Braves began her violin studies at age 10 and earned a B.A. in Music and Art History from Holy Names University. She has performed with numerous orchestras and chamber groups throughout Northern California and tours internationally as a dancer with Jubilee American Dance Theatre.
She also plays with local Tango, Scottish, English, Polish and Mariachi ensembles and recently joined a Beatles cover band. She is very excited to be part of “Tea and Tango” and hopes to dance a Tanda or two when she has a chance to put her violin down.
Charles Granich, Bass Clarinet, has studied tango music through Community Music Center in San Francisco under Scott O’Day. He has also performed with LOFT (La Orquesta de Fusion Tango) for the last several years. He resides in Berkeley with his wife and two children.
Wakeford Gong (he/him) is an active musical theater musician in the Bay Area with diverse musical interests. He has worked with companies such as Berkeley Playhouse, Korsa Musical Theater, Woodminster, and Mountain Play. He has also performed with the tango group Orquesta Z as well as the rock-and-roll Renegade Orchestra. Wakeford enjoys teaching violin in Alameda to students of all ages, helping them to express themselves through their instrument. And in his spare time, he likes to practice calligraphy.
Viola
Mira Barakat discovered Argentine tango at a Berkeley milonga in 2006 and moved to Buenos Aires in 2010 to pursue dancing and singing. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory in vocal performance, she studied with several maestros, including Ariel Varnerín, and performed throughout Buenos Aires, including at the renowned Taconeando theater. She later sang at the New Zealand Tango Festival and performed in Samoa as a representative of the Argentine Embassy.
Since returning to the Bay Area, Mira has taught tango, danced with Tango Con*Fusión, and performed with local and visiting musicians, including Scott O’Day. She also recorded the album Mira Barakat Tangos with Juan Villarreal and Patricio Crom.

Feeling Flow: Hosted at a historic heritage house in Palo Alto, we are inspired to help people experience flow through dance, yoga, meditation, and related arts, and give them basic tools to translate this experience into other areas of life. Flow is a state of awareness where we are completely immersed in what is right in front of us. It is a highly satisfying state that facilitates well-being and growth. Art, in essence, is a form of self-discovery and a connection practice. It is said that the best way to know yourself is through the mirror of relating to others.

We highly recommend dance shoes or can you dance in socks. We request no street shoes on the dance floor.

To keep things streamlined we request you to register through this website at least 2 hours before the event. But, come nonetheless, the door pricing may be expensive and in case the event sells out we will have to sadly turn you back, this has happened in the past.
