This course introduces the two companion dances of the Argentine Tango family through four Milonga classes and two Vals classes. Students will learn Milonga rhythm, traspié, cross system, corridas, musicality, and classic social vocabulary including the Baldosa, Progressive Basic, Rock Steps (Vaivén), Grapevine, and Amagues. The Vals portion develops the flowing 1-2-3 rhythm using familiar Tango vocabulary, while introducing Cambio de Frente with Lápiz and Leader's Cruzada. Emphasis is placed on musicality, connection, floorcraft, and confident social dancing.
Prerequisite: Comfortably dance the material in Tango Foundations I or equivalent experience.

Explore the lively character and history of Argentine Milonga while learning the essential rhythm, cadence, and pulse that distinguish it from Tango and Vals. Students will develop a compact Milonga walk and build their first social vocabulary through the Baldosa, Progressive Basic, and Rock Steps (Vaivén), combining these elements into simple, musical social dance sequences.

Expand your Milonga vocabulary by developing a confident Traspié, exploring common rhythmic patterns through single- and double-time, and learning to transition smoothly into Cross System. The class also introduces compact turns, Corridas (runs), and practical navigation skills for dancing comfortably in the ronda.

Refine your understanding of Milonga through musical phrasing, rhythmic variation, and improvisation. Students will practice Traspié variations, compact ochos, and techniques for adapting movement to different orchestras while improving connection, timing, and confidence in crowded social dance settings.

Discover the elegant, flowing character of Argentine Vals through its distinctive 1-2-3 rhythm and continuous movement. Students will develop a smooth Vals walk while adapting familiar Tango vocabulary—including the Progressive Basic, Ochos, and Giros—to the flowing rhythm of Vals. The class emphasizes continuous movement without pauses, circular navigation, seamless transitions, and expressing the sweeping quality of the music with connection and ease.

Build confidence in social Vals by expanding your vocabulary with Cambio de Frente with Lápiz and Leader's Cruzada, while learning to connect figures into uninterrupted, flowing movement. Students will explore musical phrasing, elegant transitions, improvisation, and social floorcraft, culminating in the ability to dance an entire Vals tanda with confidence, musicality, and flow.
