The program features tango music for dancing, complemented by select concert pieces that invite quiet listening and reflection between sets
La Orquesta Fusion Tango (L.O.F.T.) is a vibrant community tango orchestra based in the San Francisco Bay Area, dedicated to reviving and reimagining the rich traditions of Argentine tango. Directed by flutist Melissa Bowman, L.O.F.T. brings together talented local musicians from diverse musical backgrounds — classical, jazz, and contemporary — to explore the depth and passion of tango music through collaborative performance and education. The ensemble’s mission is to build community through the shared experience of live tango, fostering both musicianship and connection between dancers, listeners, and artists across the Bay Area’s creative scene.

Cuarteto Scott O’Day is a Bay Area tango ensemble led by guitarist and arranger Scott O’Day, who studied in Buenos Aires and directs the tango program at the San Francisco Community Music Center. The group features Grammy-nominated bassist Sascha Jacobsen (Los Tangueros del Oeste, Kronos Quartet collaborator), pianist Elyse Weakley (educator and creator of the “Strike A Chord” music program), and violinist Sara Chazin (First Violin, Santa Rosa Symphony). Their repertoire spans classic tango masters like Pugliese and Piazzolla to contemporary works, blending concert-level musicianship with the rhythmic vitality of the dance floor.
Orquesta Típica Tarareando is a Bay Area Argentine tango orchestra that blends classical training with deep tango expertise. Led by bandoneonist and vocalist Alexander Zeyliger, a Caltech alumnus who studied tango performance at the Stowe Tango Music Festival and Tango for Musicians Institute, the group includes pianist and vocalist Crystie Shum (Hong Kong-born performer, 2022–23 Stowe Tango Festival Orchestra member), cellist Angela Lee (Juilliard and Yale graduate, Carnegie Hall soloist), violinists Naomi Kawabata and Sarah Wu (Reed College concertmaster, Tango for Musicians alumna), and bassist Ken Miller (San Francisco Symphony, Opera, and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra).

Our DJs are dancers, artists, and teachers with a deep understanding of tango’s music, culture, and history. Versed in multiple art forms, they bring artistry and insight to every tanda, connecting tradition with the living pulse of the dance floor.

As a teacher, Sara emphasizes presence, elegance, and playful exploration—helping dancers connect deeply to the music.

Feeling Flow: Hosted at a historic heritage house in Palo Alto, we are inspired to help people experience flow through dance, yoga, meditation, and related arts, and give them basic tools to translate this experience into other areas of life. Flow is a state of awareness where we are completely immersed in what is right in front of us. It is a highly satisfying state that facilitates well-being and growth. Art, in essence, is a form of self-discovery and a connection practice. It is said that the best way to know yourself is through the mirror of relating to others.
