Tango Musicality Workshops
Time: 2:15 to 3:30 PM
Date: July 12th & July 19th
Venue: 1680 Bryant St, Palo Alto
Not a music class—a dance class. Inspired by the work of Joaquin Amenábar from Argentina and collaborations with Bay Area Tango Musicians. No instruments needed, just your feet and your ear.
July 12th, 2:15 - 3:30p
Embodied Orchestra explores the foundational elements of tango musicality through the lens of rhythm and timing, syncopation, and melody. You’ll learn to recognize and embody melody, rhythm and off-beat rhythms like the iconic 3–3–2 syncopation. We’ll also explore melodic phrasing and how to interpret musical dialogues within a piece—so you don’t just dance to the beat, but within the song itself.
July 19th, 2:15 - 3:30p
In the second part of the series, we’ll introduce orchestra styles, helping you distinguish the unique textures and emotional tones of classic tango orchestras—from the smooth phrasing of Di Sarli to the sharp accents of D’Arienzo. This musical awareness deepens your connection to the music and opens space for personal expression and improvisation in your dance.
Karn, founder of Feeling Flow, began dancing at age 7, inspired by Michael Jackson’s Dangerous, and later trained in over a dozen forms including Salsa, Bachata, and Argentine tango. Since 2015, his tango journey has been shaped by masters like Pablo Verón and Richard Powers. A seasoned teacher and performer, Karn weaves meditation into his work, fostering authenticity and presence. Through Feeling Flow, he is growing a vibrant community of dancers and artists—hosting a thriving live music scene, alumni workshops for MIT-CNC and Stanford, and the Bay Area Maestros series uniting the region’s most experienced tango teachers.
